During world history class at the local community college, Jonathan’s professor bragged to his students that “The Bible is fake and should not be believed. It says ‘peace and goodwill towards men.’ History tells us that at no time has there been peace but wars!”

Later that evening, Jonathan reported the incident after the Bible meeting to his pastor. The pastor calmly said, “Jon, that is not what the angels said. What they said, ‘Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.'”

Politicians speak peace through treaties, threats, sanctions, and rumors of wars. However that is not the peace God speaks of in His Word. His Word speaks of a peace that comes through salvation and submission. It’s a peace that comes from the new heart that He implants inside of us when we receive the Holy Spirit. It’s a peace that Christians savor after we open the door to our hearts and permit Him to come in and rule our lives.

The peace that the Scriptures speaks of will not come from a non-peaceful origin. It’s a peace that comes through the risen Christ and has its authority in God Himself.

We will not find peace in a very violent, war-torn world till we make peace with God through The Word, Jesus Christ. When we go to Him in humility, faith, trust, submission, repentance and ask His forgiveness He will grant us His peace.

And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying,
Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men. Luke 2:13-14
